GA 27
State Route 27 (SR 27) is a state highway that runs west-to-east through portions of Quitman, Stewart, Webster, Sumter, Dooly, Pulaski, Dodge, Telfair, Jeff Davis, Appling, Wayne, and Glynn counties in southern Georgia, crossing the entire state from the Alabama state line to the Atlantic coast.
The route runs from its western terminus at US 39, SR 39, and SR 50 in Georgetown to its eastern terminus at US 17, US 341, and SR 25 in Brunswick.
From its western terminus at US 82/SR 39/SR 50 east of Georgetown, SR 27 travels northeast, then east, arriving in Lumpkin, where it intersects US 27/SR 1, and then proceeds to Richland. In Richland, SR 27 intersects US 280/SR 520. SR 27 begins a concurrency with US 280 east through Preston and Plains before arriving in Americus. Just to the southwest of Americus, US 19/SR 3 run concurrent with US 280/SR 27. In the eastern part of Americus, SR 27 departs US 280 and continues east to Vienna. The route continues northeast from Vienna, intersecting I-75 exit 112, before continuing northeast to Hawkinsville. In Hawkinsville, SR 27 becomes cosigned with US 129 ALT/US 341/SR 26/SR 257. The concurrency runs to Hartford. In Hartford, US 341/SR 27 depart to the southeast. The two routes travel east-southeast to Eastman. There, US 23 joins the concurrency. In McRae, the three routes intersect US 280/SR 30 and US 319/US 441/SR 31. In Lumber City, SR 19 joins the concurrency. In Hazlehurst, the four routes intersect US 221/SR 135. This is also the point that US 23/SR 19 depart to the southeast. In Jesup, US 341/SR 27 intersect SR 84/SR 38. On the southeast part of the city, US 341/SR 27 intersect SR 25/US 301/SR 23, with US 25 joining the concurrency. In Arco, part of the Brunswick area, the three routes intersect with I-95 exit 36. In Arco, the routes continue south, and continue through downtown Brunswick. Then, US 25 departs to the northeast. US 341/SR 27 continue farther to the southeast, before turning eastnortheast to meet their eastern terminus at US 17/SR 25.
SR 27 sees only minor traffic west of Hawkinsville, except in and around Plains and Americus. The route east of Hawkinsville, running concurrent with US 341, is a major route in southeast Georgia, and receives more traffic than the western section, with an Average Annual Daily Traffic (AADT) count of more than 5,000 vehicles in many areas.
State Route 27 Business (SR 27 BUS) is a short business route that connects the SR 27 mainline with the downtown area of Eastman. The SR 27 mainline bypasses the town to the south, while the business route goes through the central part of town. SR 27 BUS runs concurrent with US 23 between downtown and US 341/SR 27 on the southeast side of town.
