NC 114 is a spur route, starting at I-40 (exit 107), it goes north, crossing US 70 before entering the town of Drexel. The road ends, after the railroad tracks next to a factory, at Oakland Avenue.

The entire route is in Burke County.

NC 114 was established in 1930 as a new primary route between US 70/NC 10 to Drexel. In 1977, NC 114 was extended south to its current southern terminus at I-40.

Though the highway is commonly known as "NC 114" throughout the state, the highway does have other known names it uses locally in areas.
