Virginia:
In effect, Interstate 295 serves as a bypass route for both Interstate 64 and Interstate 95 and the via for Interstate 85. It also performs crossover duty for travelers between Washington (reached by Interstate 95) and southeastern Virginia (reached by Interstate 64), and links many of Richmond's suburbs (such as Short Pump, Mechanicsville, Highland Springs, Varina, and Hopewell). Much of the route is now posted at 70 mph. All of the exits are clover leaves with the exceptions of, its northern terminus Interstate 64, Exit 25 VA 895, and its southern terminus Interstate 95.
BridgeThe Varina-Enon Bridge carries Interstate 295 across the James River near Dutch Gap between Chesterfield County and Henrico County. It was opened to traffic in July 1990, and was the second major cable-stayed bridge in the United States.
